COFFEE PROFILE
This coffee was grown on Campestré, the farm of Renato Ribeiro. It is a very sweet and delicate cup with substantial body. The acidity is mild and soft—you’ll find a bit of pleasant tartness in the French roast. Finishes with a sweet, nutty chocolate.
GEOGRAPHIC PROFILE - Campestré History
Renato has made the transition from conventional farming to organic sustainable farming, but in order for a producer to receive an organic certification for their coffee they must be growing organically for a minimum of three years.
There are many hardships for a farmer during this transition period. Higher labor costs, lower crop yields, and not being able to market their product as it was grown are just a few of the penalties Renato and others like him encounter.

Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza (FAF)
Local farmers like Renato use Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza’s (FAF) mill and drying patios, and their coffees are marketed through FAF acting as export agent. FAF has been a coffee plantation since 1850 and owned and run by the Barretto family since the early 1900s. Since 2002, Silvia Barretto and her husband, Marcos Croce, have been working on transforming the farm into a model of sustainable organic agriculture, thus demonstrating how agriculture in Brazil can be productive and profitable while producing a natural living environment through the proper use of the land’s natural resources. Marcos and Silvia also work hard in their communities supporting other farmers, like Renato Rebeiro at Campestré, in their efforts to produce sustainably.

Through Direct Trade with coffee exporters at Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza and Renato, Dunn Bros Coffee was able to purchase this truly wonderful coffee. Bypassing the middlemen allows the farmer to realize higher profits from their crop, easing the financial burdens while farmers transition from conventional to organic farming.
